When discussing women in a historical context, the popular imagination tends to focus, on the one hand, on noblewomen and courtesans engaged in who knows what intrigues in the shadow of a sovereign, and, on the other, on the status of women and the successive and ever-relevant social struggles undertaken to improve it, particularly in the modern era. We rarely pause to consider another aspect of women’s history over the centuries: the many female figures who actually held positions of real power, whether by birthright or through their own actions. Sovereigns, military commanders, leaders of entire nations… women did not merely covet power; they often exercised it themselves.
There are many examples of this, and there are also many historical games that commemorate them. In this panel, organised by LudoStoria for Federludo, we will discuss some of them, examining how they portray a wide variety of female figures, from antiquity to the present day, and engaging the audience in a lively discussion on the topic.
The panel will be led by Riccardo Masini, president of LudoStoria, a games expert, author of academic and popular history publications, and a member of the Italian Society of Military History.
Target audience: Games and history enthusiasts, scholars and researchers, game designers and creators of gaming content.
Panel in Italian.
Places are limited; booking required to attend.
