The event is offered by the Municipality of Gradara, Gradara Innova, and the History and Games Lab of the University of Edinburgh.
The event, which is available both in Italian and English, is inspired by local traditions in Gradara, Dante's Divine Comedy, renai ssance paintings on the theme of Triumph of Death, by the figure of Georg Faustus, a German renaissance alchemist, astrologist, and magician who inspired the famous character of Faust featuring in the works of Johann Wolfgang Goethe e di Christopher Marlowe, and by opular culture on undeads.
The event is free but regostration is required because of limited availability.
Gradara 1483 AD. Giordano Antani, a blundering scholar of arcane lore and an enthusiast of Dante’s Divine Comedy, tries to take advantage of astral conjunctions and of a necromantic spell he found to contact the spirits of his favourite characters from the Divine Comedy. Apart from Dante himself, they include the ancient necromancer Erictho, the ancient Roman poet Virgil, the medieval locals Paolo and Francesca, and their murderer, Giovanni, who was Francesca’s husband.
The spell works, but something goes HORRIBLY wrong! The spirits remain trapped in Gradara, some of them are clearly hostile, they are joined by grotesque demons, and the dead start rising from their tombs to attack the living!
A living stranger also appears, dressed weirdly, with what looks like a magical saw in place of one hand, and holding a wondrous gun in the other. Who is he? Where does he come from? How did he get here? And which side is he on?
All hell broke loose in Gradara! Is it the end of the world? Some inhabitants of Gradara do not think so and decide to organise a stubborn defence. The stranger joins them with his powerful weapons, which really lifts their spirits! Some suggest that he is an angel sent to help them, but he would be a very strange angel indeed, so VERY down to earth, and so VERY rude too!
Step into the role of one of the evil undead, or of one of the leaders of the terrified but resolute resistance, in an epic clash that will decide the fate of Gradara, or perhaps of humanity itself!
We will play this scenario on our MONUMENTAL PLAYABLE MODEL OF GRADARA with 28mm miniatures and using the very friendly Dragon Rampant ruleset. No preparation is necessary: our two game masters will teach you the rules while they direct the game!
