When trying to figure out why some people struggle to get into roleplaying games, three key obstacles tend to come up:
- A big commitment: pages of rules to read, mechanics to learn, and systems to master – especially if there’s a GM involved.
- Time: standard sessions often last three hours or more and require a regular weekly commitment.
- Group logistics: finding and coordinating with people who can match your schedule and commitment level.
That’s where NEED GAMES! steps in with the FilleRPG project, created by Andrea Carbone.
FilleRPG is:
- A line of RPGs in the form of card decks (15–30 cards) for quick 15–30 minute sessions.
- Zero prep required – everything you need is printed on the cards. Just draw, read, and play!
- Modular and adaptable – different genres, play styles, and group sizes for a custom-fit experience.
FilleRPG is still in development and will be officially presented on Sunday 6 April at 15:00 in the Play Designer Room, during a talk with author Andrea Carbone and Nicola Degobbis, founder of NEED GAMES!
The session will also dive deeper into the complex relationship between RPGs and session length – and how this project aims to make RPGs more accessible and spontaneous.
